This morning, a friend of mine inquired about the benefits of decluttering.
Her question. “May I ask: what benefits have you noticed so far?”
My response began to trail into the blog-worthy word count range; so I thought I’d share. In honor of her request.
{ and spare myself the pain of typing on the itty bitty keyboard }
I had to get my big girl keyboard out { my laptop } because the benefits are numerous! So numerous they exceed word counts allowed on some social media outlets.
The Benefits of Decluttering
I’ve experienced transformation! From:
- dreading the drive home because there’s too much on my silent to-do list that’s waiting for me there to looking forward to walking through my front door… with JOY!
- feeling suffocated under endless piles of paper to breathing freely and actually reading a book (with my feet propped up!).
- embarrassed to have anyone over for coffee or tea (let alone a meal) to thriving in my decluttered kitchen. Enjoying cooking again! And I don’t have to move things in order for people to sit down or eat at The Table.
- enslaved to the things in my home to free from the tyranny of too many things.
- forgetting what I actually own to knowing and appreciating every single item in my home.
- paying rent on storage spaces big enough to hold items I don’t like and will never use to not letting my stuff be my landlord.
- letting my stuff boss and order me around to ordering and bossing my stuff so it serves me.
- feeling like I don’t have the time to manage all my stuff/to-do lists to having just the right amount of things that help free up time to create systems for my home that almost make it run itself.
- multiple to-do lists longer than I’d like to admit to creating a to-don’t list that’s longer than my to-dos { which are now on one list }.
I’ve found that the benefits of decluttering far outweigh the monetary value of the thousands of items I’ve set loose from my grip.
And best of all! I’ve experienced increased measures of peace.
